Hazardous area classification
Explosive dust atmospheres
Technology zoning is often required to pre-determine the need for explosion protection systems and select the correct equipment package in terms of electrical components, explosion pressure relief systems and explosion isolation.
ATEX zoning involves determining the presence and duration of presence of potentially explosive atmospheres, both inside and outside the equipment, as well as determining the required degree of explosion protection of the equipment in these areas.
Based on the identification based on the classification of explosive zones, a graphic part is created with visualization of explosive zones on the design documentation and a map of explosive zones is created for marking equipment and premises.
Stages of classification of hazardous areas
Determination of explosion hazard characteristics of materials
Determining the explosion hazard characteristics of materials stored or processed in a facility is the first step in creating Explosion Protection Documentation.
Based on these parameters, the necessary requirements for the degrees of protection of electrical equipment are determined and calculations of explosion protection systems are performed.
Calculation of acceptable dust layers
Accumulation of dust poses a significant risk of hazardous areas and secondary explosions. A high-quality level of cleaning can reduce the risks of explosive zones, secondary explosions and reduce the explosive zone to a safe one.
We make calculations of permissible dust layers, which will help assess the likelihood of the formation of explosive zones and secondary explosions.
Identification and classification of hazardous areas
Without exaggeration, the identification and classification of hazardous areas can be called the most important part of explosion protection documentation.
It is in this section that the presence of potentially explosive zones is determined, their classification is carried out and the level of cleanliness in production is assessed. According to the classified zones, electrical components are checked and the presence of effective ignition sources in these zones is carried out.
Graphic part of the classification of hazardous areas
Map of hazardous areas
The graphical part of the explosion protection documentation provides a visual understanding of where explosive zones are located, in which the level of cleaning, ignition sources, and the need to install explosion protection systems must be carefully monitored.
Maps of hazardous areas should be placed in production to inform personnel about the risks.
- The classification of hazardous areas is developed in accordance with current standards
